". I do not consider there to be any link, whether direct or indirect, between Portugal’s defeat and the outbreaks of hooliganism. It is a fact of the game that sometimes luck is not on your side. In any event, Portugal will be hosting Euro 2004, and that is why, for Euro 2000, the Commission supported several practical initiatives for police cooperation in order to try out new methods of cooperation and to learn lessons from them. We are now in the process of assessing those measures. As soon as the report is available, it will be discussed and legislative measures will be adopted at European level, which is our objective – to adopt measures at European level that are capable of supporting this police cooperation in the fight against hooliganism. I am currently awaiting this report. As soon as it is ready, it will certainly be made public and the debate on what initiatives need to be taken will begin."@en1
