"Mr President, congratulations to Parliament for also voting in favour of keeping derogations regarding the importing of alcoholic products and the continued application of excise duty payments. I voted against this measure. I often imagine that when the Ministers for Finance see one of us, a citizen – many of which are pensioners – drinking wine, whisky, vodka or any sort of alcohol, they say “Goody goody! More duty. This will be good for the balance sheet”. But is it right that the tax systems of our States should benefit every single time we drink a glass of wine? I do not think so! I therefore voted against the motion."@en1
