"Madam President, as Chairperson of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Equal Opportunities, I was a touch surprised at the request to establish that a quorum was present today. We moved our two topics so that Mrs Buitenweg’s report could be discussed and voted on yesterday. Mrs Sörensen’s and Mrs Karamanou’s reports were therefore moved to yesterday evening to be debated, and were to be voted on today.
I think it is odd, to say the least, that our colleagues should behave in this way. It may perhaps be possible for my colleague to withdraw the proposal and appreciate the need to realise that half the earth’s population consists of women. It is an extremely serious document which Mrs Sörensen has written and which we shall be voting on today. I would most earnestly ask my colleagues to stop trifling with this Parliament and withdraw their proposal – perhaps with the help of Mrs Buitenweg."@en1
