". We voted in favour of this report because it highlights the most important aspects of our analysis of the follow-up to the Beijing Declaration and Action Platform. We also think that the 2000 review process should in no way lead to a renegotiation of the commitments entered into in Beijing. All the 12 key sectors are important and they must be tackled, given the sexual discrimination which exists in all areas, and since lack of progress in one sector will inevitably have repercussions on the other sectors. We also believe that it is important to hold a further conference in five years’ time with a view to assessing progress for women in the fields of equality, development and peace. It is also of fundamental importance for the Council, the Commission and the Member States to do everything possible to combat violence against women, especially in the home, at the workplace, in society in general and in armed conflicts."@en1
