"Mr President, I am sorry that I am only giving two explanations of vote on this occasion, but I do so with great pleasure, for Mr Maat’s report is of great significance: as we are all aware, it has ensured that the practice of giving free milk and milk products to school children will be continued. I remember the time when an elderly person came into my father’s bar, where I worked when I was a child, and asked for a glass of milk, saying, ‘I drank milk when I was born and I want to die drinking milk!’. I therefore put it to you – and I voted for the motion – that the European Union should give a glass of milk to pensioners, as well as to students, on a daily basis."@en1
