"Mr President, I would prefer to address Mrs Plooij-van Gorsel’s issue when I respond to the report on the internal market. This would, however, mean that Mrs Plooij-van Gorsel would have to stay even longer at this meeting. This is not such a bad thing, in my opinion. In the final analysis, many remarks made in this meeting will also be of interest to Mrs Plooij-van Gorsel, but since she has reminded me of this question, which, as I have already said, I would have addressed at a later stage, let me just say that this is of course an issue pertaining to the internal market. It is true that small and medium-sized businesses are facing obstacles in their cross-border activities. The Commission is acutely aware of this. Needless to say, the scope of the internal market is intended to facilitate cross-border activities for small and medium-sized businesses. The new strategy for the internal market comprises one hundred or so measures, many of which will be beneficial to small and medium-sized businesses. But if Mrs Plooij-van Gorsel would like to approach me with specific problems relating to small and medium-sized businesses which are not covered in the new strategy for the internal market, I shall make every effort to address these points to her satisfaction."@en1
