"Mr President, on behalf of the GUE/NGL Group, I wish to withdraw Amendments 53 and 55 relating to paragraph 17 of the report. It does indeed seem that the wording of these two amendments could give rise to conflicting interpretations, especially in certain language versions. I am against ethnic classifications, because that would stigmatise immigrants. Amendments 53 and 55 called for the term “ethnic” to be deleted. The use of the word “data” could be taken as referring to statistics on the incidence of racism and discrimination, which could be useful; but it could also be taken as referring to the introduction of files, with all the problems that implies and which we also discussed in relation to Eurodac. Those are the reasons why I decided to withdraw these two amendments."@en1
