"Mr President, I voted as representative of the Pensioners’ Party for this measure on the evaluation of fishing programmes as well. It is right for there to be penalties for those who do not implement the guidelines, but I must also say that, following my speech in this House regarding the explanation of vote on Friday 17 December 1999, that is, last century, the fish got wind of this and, in writing – because as we all know, they cannot talk – said to me: “Well done, you spoke up for us! Speak up again for us young fish, especially seeing as you are a young fish yourself, but also speak up for the elderly fish who would like to live longer and who are therefore in favour of limiting fishing where the guidelines are breached.” They also asked me – but I will do this another time – to put forward their proposals on fishing nets so that they can live longer and become pensioners as well."@en1
