"Mr President, I would like to stress that, in an age of significant technological changes – just look at what is happening in the information technology sector and other sectors such as energy and transport – safeguarding competition will be of fundamental importance for our future. From the point of view of economic growth, and therefore of increasing employment and wealth, safeguarding a competition policy in the Member States is becoming a crucial factor, and one that is certainly very important for our future. This is why I give this report my full support. Recently, I have noticed that the Commission has been working hard to ensure that this principal is respected in a proper and effective manner, precisely in order to safeguard market flexibility, both for products and for services. I would emphasise that this is going to be extremely important for our future, for Europe’s economy, and, above all, for the protection of our wealth and technological development in Europe in general."@en1
