lpv:translated text	"Mr President, the budget line for reproductive health has been halved by the Council and the Commission. But, every minute, 380 women become pregnant. Of these pregnancies, 190 are unwanted or unplanned. One hundred and eleven women experience pregnancy-related complications and 40 have unsafe abortions. Every single minute, there is a death following a pregnancy-related complication. Approximately 300 million women suffer from short- or long-term illnesses because of complications in pregnancy. That is more than a quarter of all women living in developing countries. The risk of dying in pregnancy or while giving birth is 1 in 8 in Angola, while it is 1 in 8,700 in a country like Switzerland. Only 53% of women in developing countries give birth with a doctor, nurse or midwife present. Seventeen per cent give birth completely alone. At least 60% of all pregnant women in developing countries are anaemic. We know what it means for a family if the mother is sick or dies. The mother’s income goes on food, clothes, schooling and health care. If there is no access to reproductive health facilities, there are consequences for the whole family, not least the children who, in the worst case, also die when the mother dies or else stop going to school and become malnourished. Reproductive health is cheap, costing EUR 2 or 3 per woman per year. It is also cost-effective when one considers the consequences for the whole family. This year, almost 600,000 women will die in pregnancy or while giving birth. By far the majority of these fatalities could be avoided. It is therefore incredibly important to maintain this particular budget line for reproductive health. A lot has been said about Kosovo. Of course, I completely share the view that it is outrageous to let poor countries pay for the reconstruction of Kosovo."@en1
