"Mr President, this resolution calls for the Commission to get on with the job of installing the European Public Prosecutor. The UK supposedly has an opt-out from the jurisdiction of the Public Prosecutor, but this is effectively worthless. The Prosecutor could easily bypass the UK’s opt—out by using the legal instruments and institutions that the UK has already subjected itself to through the auspices of the Member States. Unsurprisingly enough, that brings me onto the subject of Brexit. When the UK leaves the EU, we must repeal all the legal instruments we have enacted, such as the European Arrest Warrant, and withdraw from legal institutions such as Eurojust. We must replace them with genuine cooperative measures such as those that existed before, for example the European Convention on Extradition and Interpol – but all suitably revised, of course, to ensure that the protection of the rights of British citizens under our own law is the priority."@en1
