"I cannot support a European framework to address unfair trading practices, which risks undermining the significant efforts being made in the UK through the Grocery Adjudicator and Grocery Code to address unfair trading practices in the UK market. This national self-regulatory scheme is much more effective than a European scheme ill-fitted to the UK market would prove to be, as the criticism of own brands in this report shows. Own brands deliver more choice and competitive pricing to consumers, and any attempt to undermine the UK’s consumer-focused market should be rejected. However I also recognise the hard work done by the rapporteur to try to make the report better and so I abstained."@en1
