"I strongly believe that the internet must remain open and neutral. With this in mind, the end of roaming is a welcome and celebrated step for consumers. Indeed, successive reductions in roaming prices have consistently proven to be one of the most tangible positive news stories of EU intervention, and the latest agreement was also welcomed by the Prime Minister.
As a member of the Conservative party, I am naturally sceptical towards market intervention but I remain both satisfied that regulatory intervention is necessary in this instance as well as reassured that appropriate safeguards have been put in place to prevent mandated losses to operators and also an increase in domestic tariffs.
Furthermore, in view of the growth of internet traffic, the new rules ensure that when providers manage traffic it is on a non-competitive basis to guarantee the openness of the internet. It is for these reasons that I voted in favour of the Council’s position."@en1
