"Today UKIP voted against the Grzyb report on limitation of emissions of certain pollutants into the air. This vote concerned the drafting of new EU legislation intended to regulate medium combustion plants in Europe. There are approximately 150 000 medium combustion plants in Europe and they are used for a wide variety of applications (including electricity generation, domestic/residential heating and cooling and providing heat/steam for industrial processes).
We in UKIP believe in the importance of improving air quality in Europe. We oppose the EU Commission’s proposal to draft new EU legislation in this field. Therefore we oppose a new EU directive which, covering all medium combustion plants, would impose unjustified burdens on our industry and economy. We do not believe this is a matter that should be regulated by the unelected EU Commission.
We also oppose the establishment of a mandatory EU registration scheme to be applied to all new plants. Nonetheless, today we supported all exceptions to the application of the directive proposed by the rapporteur in order to alleviate the impact of this over-prescriptive regulation."@en1
