"I voted in favour of this report. It was a single-vote consent report in which Parliament gave its consent for Member States to ratify the 2014 Protocol to the ILO Convention against forced labour. The Protocol is positive and necessary and outlines strong steps that need to be taken in order to combat human trafficking and forced labour, and it is a response to the fact that while most Member States have ratified the Convention, forced labour still exists across the EU. The Protocol specifically addresses the gaps in cooperation by crime agencies in combating cross-border human trafficking. As some aspects of the Protocol fall under EU competence, Parliament is required to authorise the Member States to ratify it and the report urges them to do so by the end of 2016."@en1
