"I supported this Report where I voted in favour of paragraph 43 of the original text which supported the auditing of the general expenditure allowance. As far as MEP ranking and Vote Watch is concerned there is a tendency to focus on quantity rather than quality. No account is taken of the fact the written questions can cost up to €3,000 per question whereas the cost of an email or letter to the Commission is negligible and may ensure the same result. Every MEP has a choice in regard to questions but the pressures of slipping down the MEP ranking because you email or call instead of asking a written question makes it difficult to make the best decision in light of the cost to the taxpayer."@en1
