"I fully support this report which asks for clarity on how employment laws should be applied between Member States. There is a fear amongst some Member States that national law could overrule European law. Improvements need to be made so that national law does not challenge the internal market. Currently, the different Member States have their own balance between workers’ rights, trade unions, and the ability to do business differently. I support the rapporteur, who states that with cross-border situations, laws need to have a great level of predictability when it comes to jurisdiction. I voted in favour of this report, because it emphasises that at all times ‘European law should respect national traditions in the field’. The main goal is to create a working environment where the weaker party, typically employees, are not abused."@en1
