"A Uachtaráin, cosúil le mo chomhghleacaí Jim Higgins fáiltím roimh an tuarascáil seo agus bhí áthas orm tacaíocht a thabhairt di. Gan dabht ar bith is lá maith é don Aontas Eorpach.
We have been speaking a lot about the single European market and the need to complete it. I think today’s decision will go a long way towards making that happen.
There is no doubt that we need a unitary patent within the European Union. This has taken a long time and now we are getting there, albeit under enhanced cooperation. Two countries have opted out, although it is significant that there were some dissenting voices from within those countries regarding the decisions in question, and the sooner they opt in, the better for everybody. Nevertheless there is an opportunity now for SMEs in particular to patent their products within the European Union, and that needs to be done. At present there are three times more patents being registered in China and four times more in the US, and the reasons are pretty obvious. Thankfully, today’s decision will change that."@en1
