"Female genital mutilation is an horrific tradition. Not everything found in the traditions of any particular culture can be said to be good. Pain and suffering cannot be good. We respect diversity and difference. However, there are areas in which we are compelled by European values to be resolute in protest and in opposition. We do not agree to the mutilation of women. We consider these practices to be harmful, dangerous to health and life, and cruel. We will do everything possible to discourage these practices, and to eliminate them completely in the future. We do not want girls to suffer for reasons which cannot be considered justified under any circumstances."@en1
