"Europeans wanting to get involved in international volunteering all too often face red tape or language barriers. Yet this is an incredible opportunity for citizens to exchange and learn. Nearly 100 million Europeans are involved in volunteering and they contribute about 5% of EU GDP. We therefore need to put an end to the language and technical difficulties encountered by citizens wanting to carry out volunteer work. Powerful and innovative new tools must be developed, such as a centralised European portal offering a full range of volunteer opportunities and recognition of qualifications. Lastly, it is not possible to have volunteers without an organisation. That is why the Commission must move towards the recognition of a European Statute for Associations."@en1
