"I would like to congratulate Mr Riquet on his work. Having regard to Article 294(3) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and the report by the Committee on Transport and Tourism, by adopting this report, Parliament has taken a position reflecting a concern for the environment and a willingness to learn from past mistakes, by seeking to reduce the risks of accidental oil pollution in European waters through accelerated phasing-in of double-hull requirements.
Furthermore, Parliament proposes increasing to two months the extension of the period in which Parliament and the Council can lodge objections to delegated acts drawn up by the Commission. This would give a total of four months to deal with the necessary procedures, which is a more realistic period in which to pursue an objection."@en1
