You say that the citizens are not properly informed. However, you have undermined your case, Mrs Foster. It is a serious problem if we take citizens’ personal details when they themselves are even less able to monitor them because they are not even informed. To be frank, I think it is not sensible to go down a road – and we are going to say this to the European citizens – which would lead to them becoming involved in an American-style system for fighting terrorism, with military tribunals in the absence of procedural safeguards, endless cases of imprisonment and detention without charge.
