"Mr President, Commissioner, your last remark was the best. It is true that, in this very case, the codecision that we have had since the Treaty of Lisbon has shown its worth.
My report not only concerns high-quality beef, but is also a clear indication that many of the relationships between the US and the EU, which have recently become rather bogged down and have not looked very optimistic, could begin to improve. In that respect, the whole situation is positive.
Secondly, the report looks to the future. As you have all said, there remains a lot to do and the previous speaker, Ms McGuinness, is right in saying that we must, of course, pay attention to the details. This is only the beginning of improved transatlantic trade relationships.
I would like to make one last point and I believe, on the basis of many years’ experience of Parliament, that it should not be taken for granted. The Committee on International Trade and the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development have come to the same conclusion in the case of a sensitive product. This is not something completely new, but it certainly does not happen every day. That is why I am so pleased. I would like to thank everyone once again."@en1
