"Mr President, tomorrow we are to vote on an agreement with the Council that I think, in the end, has turned out alright, particularly as a result of requirements relating to water quality and a clear list of ingredients as well as clear labelling requirements which are intended to prevent consumers from being misled. For a while, I was concerned that we would abandon the principle that we follow when it comes to labelling of food, namely, that it is prohibited to intimate that other products within the same product group contain substances that they do not. This did not happen, and I would like to thank the rapporteur and shadow rapporteurs in particular for that.
Mr Schnellhardt made a very good point with regard to follow up. I would like to make a plea to the Commission in this regard: it is, in fact, up to you to follow up on this and ensure that the legislation that we will adopt tomorrow is actually complied with on the market. In this regard, I think that you can be a lot tougher with the Member States."@en1
