I acknowledge how important it is to adapt proactively to the inevitable consequences of climate change, especially in the regions in the world most affected by climate change and, above all, to protect the most vulnerable groups in society. This is why I call on the EU to make every effort to ensure that a binding agreement is signed in Durban on reducing emissions, with firm financial commitments supporting the implementation of measures for adapting to and mitigating the impact of climate change. This is the only way that the EU can retain its leading position and achieve its 2020 strategy objectives for sustainable growth in order to safeguard its citizens’ well-being."@en1
