"I am voting for this report, since it is extremely necessary to improve road safety, given that 35 000 people died and 1.5 million were involved in road accidents in 2009. The Committee on Transport and Tourism has already quite rightly drawn attention to a more expansive body of measures and to the need for greater coordination at all political levels, in order to significantly reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries. I also support the integrated approach and main objectives of the Commission’s policy orientations on road safety 2011-2020, although I agree with the majority of members of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament who are arguing that these guidelines lack ambition."@en1
