"The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) was created in 2006 in order to provide additional assistance to workers affected by the consequences of significant changes in the structure of international trade and to assist in their reintegration into the labour market. Since 1 May 2009, the remit of the EGF has been expanded to include support for workers made redundant as a direct consequence of the economic, financial and social crisis. Regulation (EC) No 1927/2006 also provides that 0.35% of the maximum amount of the EGF can be made available each year for technical assistance at the initiative of the Commission. I therefore voted for this report on the Commission’s request that the EGF be mobilised in order to cover its administrative needs for monitoring and information on its implementation, the creation of a knowledge base, which would allow applications and their processing to be speeded up, administrative and technical support, the exchange of successful practices among the Member States and the mid-term evaluation of the EGF."@en1
