"As the political parties are represented at European level, the institutions expect them to inform public opinion on European issues. I voted in favour of the report establishing a common legal and fiscal status for the European political parties. This has been made possible by the Treaty of Lisbon, which grants the EU a legal personality. This status is necessary for convergence in relation to the budget and the organisation of the political parties at European level and their foundations.
Foundations affiliated to political parties contribute to debates on political issues of general interest. The financial rules are clarified in order to have reliable and transparent information on their funding and functioning. One important rule is the condition on funding that requires the party to be represented by at least one Member in the European Parliament."@en1
