"The liberalisation of the rail market, imposed on Member States by the 2001 directives, has not resulted in a better service for our citizens. It is worse than that: the infrastructure is deteriorating from a lack of sufficient investment. Yet are we supposed to condemn Member States that have chosen not to dismantle their established operators to the point of rendering them ineffective? This resolution is proof of the ideological doggedness of the liberals, which is so far removed from common sense and reality. I can only vote against it."@en1
