It is based on greater information and protection for the consumer, and seeks to ban misleading nutrition and health claims, thus minimising their harmful effects and delivering greater consumer protection. Food is the very foundation of health. The concept of health is not solely confined to the absence of disease; it also encompasses the person’s physical and emotional well-being. It is therefore essential, in my view, that health claims be scientifically proven following assessment by the European Food Safety Authority."@en1
