"Commissioner, I am not one of those who want Turkey to be an uncontrolled force in the area. On the other hand, I wonder what constitutional court in a democratic country, not just in Europe but anywhere in the world, would have ruled that a quorum of two-thirds is needed in order to elect the president of the republic.
This would allow the opposition in any country to control the election of the president of the republic.
The Commission said in its statement that it respects the rule of law and its rules and does not wish to intervene in Turkey. But is there rule of law? I do not think that the Commission’s statement was balanced."@en1
