".
We know that drug-trafficking is a threat to the health, safety and quality of life of citizens. In 2001, the Commission adopted an EU-level approach to combating trafficking, in view of its transnational nature.
The final agreement laid down substantial amendments to the Commission’s original proposal, such as the establishment of new sanctions that tally more closely with those set out in the UN Conventions on this issue, in contrast to the limited definition that the Commission had put forward. We welcome the fact that consumption is not penalised, although this question is not addressed as thoroughly as we would have liked. We are opposed to the European Arrest Warrant, hence our final vote."@en1
