".
The Moderate delegation in the European Parliament believes it to be incredibly important that Parliament produce a report each year on the extent to which the EU Member States are complying with human rights. Human rights are the most important foundation stone for European cooperation. Obviously, we must make just as tough demands upon our own countries as upon the candidate countries and other countries outside the EU.
It is unfortunate, however, that the report does not only focus upon fundamental rights but also expresses certain other political objectives. Irrespective of whether or not one shares these political visions, this method is in danger of devaluing the significance of fundamental rights. That is the reason why we cannot vote in favour of the report in its entirety."@en1
