"Long-term unemployment is not a problem relating to one Member State or even to Europe, but one that we must come to terms with if the promise of the European Union is to be fulfilled by all our citizens. I was, therefore, proud to vote on this resolution. We must do more, more effectively, to give people the tools to exit long-term unemployment and utilise their talents for the common good. Too often we patronise people in long-term unemployment, and presume that they need to be harshly punished to force them into gainful work, when almost all are striving for work but have not been given the tools to adequately integrate themselves into the employment market."@en1
