"The Bach report on air passenger rights contains many positive improvements to the existing regulation. I support the moves to improve legal clarity and to close loopholes that allow some airlines to avoid paying passengers the full compensation to which they are entitled.
I am also a strong advocate of greater transparency for passengers with regard to hand-luggage allowances, particularly airport shopping purchases. I was glad, too, to see the inclusion of my amendment requiring all airports with more than one million passengers to have a ‘changing places’ facility for severely disabled people.
Despite my support for these measures, however, I abstained in the vote on the final report as Conservative amendments to include Gibraltar in the regulation were rejected. I could not, in all conscience, vote for a report on passenger rights that took away the rights of the people of Gibraltar and failed to recognise Gibraltar as part of the European Union."@en1
