"The European Parliament report on the implementation of the Professional Qualifications Directive is a response to dynamic demographic changes and changes taking place in the economy and the labour markets. Free movement of highly skilled workers is an important factor in the development of economies across the EU and of a competitive internal market. Especially now, during the economic crisis, citizens need to be able to operate in a friendly legal environment which facilitates mobility.
The directive on the recognition of professional qualifications was adopted in 2005. We can now see that it requires further improvement and revision. There is therefore still much to do in order that citizens can freely take up employment anywhere in Europe based on the knowledge and skills that they acquired in another Member State.
During consultations which I organised in Poland, almost 3 000 people appealed to the European Commission to introduce a European professional card as soon as possible. I am pleased the report supports this proposal of young Poles. I hope the card will be introduced as soon as possible and that all citizens will be able to make greater use of the single market. Therefore, I voted in favour of the European Parliament resolution on the implementation of the Professional Qualifications Directive."@en1
