"The scope of this report is to underline the importance of updating existing liability systems in the European Union, such as the Offshore Safety Directive, to ensure the application of the polluter-pays principle not only to environmental but also to traditional damages (bodily injuries/property damage/pure and consequential economic losses). It is crucial to have effective and adequate compensation mechanisms and claims handling mechanisms for such damage, especially in areas largely dependent on tourism for revenue. Such damage would limit the arrival of tourists and reduce the total revenue in those particular areas of the European Union. Therefore, there is an urgent need for compensation and financial security systems to be brought to speed and to make up for the lost money. As an advocate of the tourism industry in the European Parliament, I support this report."@ro2
