"The report on the situation of connectivity in Central and Eastern Europe is a first and major step towards reducing the significant disparities accumulated between this region and the west. It recognises that, despite efforts undertaken by the Commission through its Cohesion policy, several Eastern Member States are lagging behind in terms of infrastructure projects and attracting the EU funds available for these. In light of this, the report is proposing that the Commission comes with a strategy for Central and Eastern Europe, integrating all large infrastructure projects, taking into account both the differences between various regions and the long-term objectives of the EU. At the same time it proposes means by which European traffic can be diverted towards more transport modes, taking thus into consideration environmental concerns and congestion problems. Not least, the present report brings a new perspective to tourism by soliciting that European infrastructure projects be connected with tourism objectives, underlining the close relationship between this industry and transport."@ro2
