"Mr President, I was happy to support this report on social dumping. Today, once again in this Parliament, President Juncker spoke of the same pay for the same work in the same place. I was pleased to hear him reiterate his view that equal pay for equal work in the same place is a focus for this Commission. I believe many European citizens will share that view. This is a crucial issue for the EU. I was also pleased to support the proposal of introducing national minimum wages across Member States. We have a minimum wage in Ireland and I support the proposal that all Member States, in line with their national traditions and their practices, introduce a minimum wage. While I understand minimum wages are a Member State competence, we still know that decent wages across the EU will help to ensure social cohesion, and social cohesion is the antidote to social dumping. Social dumping undermines the EU in a most insidious way."@en1
