"I voted in favour of this report. One of the major obstacles in bringing European cybersecurity to the same level has been removed by putting in place the Directive on a high common level of security of network and information systems across the Union.
Cyber-threats do not stop at borders, nor do they discriminate between Member States or infrastructures. Europe needs to be prepared and be resilient at the highest level to counter cyber-threats. A common set of requirements and rules that apply to a range of infrastructure providers, including digital platforms, will help to establish a minimum level of preparedness across Europe.
I call upon the Member States to adapt national legislations as soon as possible and with no delays beyond the foreseen 21 months. I urge the Member States to update their cybersecurity strategies at the same time, and those Member States that still do not have one to come forward with such a strategy with no further delay.
Adopting the NIS directive will not only bring cybersecurity in Europe to a new level, it also encourages crucial public-private partnerships and acts as a trust-building measure across Member States and across infrastructure sectors."@et1
