"I voted in favour of this resolution.
China is clearly not fulfilling the needed five criteria established by the EU marking the status of a market economy. The state interference with the economy regarding prices, costs, outputs and inputs is not in line with a well-functioning market economy.
Further, the EU Trade Defence Instruments legislation is still blocked in the Council. It is one thing to pursue economic relations with China, but we have to first and foremost think of our citizens, of European jobs and industry. TDI must be in place to protect the jobs and our industry in the EU. The dramatic developments in the steel industry are a good example of what can happen without proper trade defence instruments in place."@et1
