"I voted in favour of this resolution. I am glad that EPP, my political group, initiated the resolution in question. It addresses shortcomings in providing support to people with disabilities.
One of the priorities is to better ensure that people with a disability will receive adequate state support without unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles. I am concerned about the current state of affairs, especially as there is no proper data on the situation across Europe. I call on the Commission to address the issue of data gathering and sharing. First, we have to map the needs and challenges, and then adequate answers can be provided both on European and national level.
The underlying principle should be enabling every person with disability to lead as independent a life as possible. This means encouraging society as a whole to accept these people as equals, companies to adapt to the special situation of disabled persons and to integrate them better into the job market. Every human being deserves to live a dignified and independent life."@et1
