"Mr President, Europe needs to start thinking of itself as a serious geopolitical and security actor. It must treat its common external action in strategic terms. Take frozen conflicts, from Transnistria and Nagorno-Karabakh to Cyprus. These are serious security challenges in our backyard, but the EU simply choses to neglect them, ostensibly because it was imprudent to meddle because each conflict has its own history and established resolution format which, by the way, has done nothing to resolve them.
If the EU wants to be taken seriously as a security actor, it must assume a much more active role in conflict resolution, especially in Transnistria, Nagorno-Karabakh and potentially in Ukraine."@sk2
