"Madam President, I voted against the consent and the resolution, which bears the spirit of division and not of integration of the European continent as a whole, and of the South Caucasus region in particular. The wording ‘varying levels of ambition and capacity’ with regard to the three South Caucasus states is a humiliating one. The proposal to create a specific EU-Georgia PCC, considering the varying scope of relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan, is going in that direction as well.
South Ossetia and Abkhazia are referred to as ‘occupied territories’, and Russia is called on ‘to end its occupation thereof’. This is despite the well-known EU investigation claiming that ‘open hostilities’ began with a large-scale Georgian military operation against Tskhinvali.
The statement that ‘the association process is not a threat to Russia’s political and economic interests’ remains a declaration confirmed by nothing. Therefore, the assertion that ‘the EU’s engagement with the Eastern Partners aims to spread prosperity… from which all countries in the region will gain’ is doubtful."@lv2
