"I voted for the resolution on South Sudan. That country has unfortunately reached the worst level of humanitarian crisis with almost 4 million people in need of humanitarian assistance and half a million having sought refuge in neighbouring countries. Whereas the EU has provided 38% of international contributions, it needs to reprogramme its development assistance to meet the most urgent needs of the population there. The focus should be on sending aid to the most vulnerable on a needs basis, preventing humanitarian aid being diverted to the hands of armed groups. However, any amount of humanitarian aid cannot address the political divisions which are root of the problem. The EU should urge the Sudanese Government to make sure that especially oil revenues benefit the people in need."@et1
