It is symbolically and politically a ‘must’ to support our Eastern Partnership neighbours who show clear willingness to integrate closer with the EU. In the light of the violent events in Ukraine and Russia’s increasing interference in its neighbour’s internal affairs, the EU needs to send a strong signal that we stand behind our Eastern partners which have opted for the European way and that we are ready to provide incentives. Providing visa waiver to Moldovan citizens holding biometric passports that meet EU standards is to be welcomed. This is one important step on the road to building closer ties not only between the EU and Moldova as a state, but also between the citizens of Moldova and the EU."@et1
