"I voted in favour of this resolution. Taking into account the exemplary account of Taiwan’s development, both in regard of economic, as also of social affairs and its good record in democracy and human rights, I do believe it is only natural to pursue with deeper economic relations. Currently, Taiwan is the EU’s 23
trade partner in the world, whereas the EU is the number one foreign investor in Taiwan. Both figures show already a considerable economic interaction, nevertheless experts agree that this is well below its potential. I support pursuing further investment protection and market access bilateral agreements with Taiwan, which has already 31 bilateral agreements with third countries. This would enable both sides to enhance the economic potential and engage in closer cooperation on bilateral level."@et1
