"I voted in favour of Latvian accession to eurozone. Latvia will adopt the euro on 1 January 2014. This step pays tribute to the hard work and determination of the Latvian Government and people in overcoming the dreadful recession they fell into. One of the deepest falls has turned into an absolute success story and led to full European integration. Also the OECD decided on 30 May 2013 to open membership talks with Latvia, which clearly underlines the Latvian success story. Latvia demonstrates well that political commitment and determination play a key role in times of crisis and overcoming difficulties. We can only admire how a country with an almost 18% drop in GDP in 2010 is now predicted to be the fastest growing economy in the EU for 2013 and 2014. It is equally remarkable that average wages will exceed the levels of pre-crisis growth already this year. The EU should be proud of its latest eurozone member, and most importantly learn from this small country on how to act in difficult times."@et1
