"I voted in favour of this report. The EU’s credibility lies in its ability to perform in a transparent and non-corrupted manner. OLAF has been set up to control, investigate and ensure that this is the case. Any suspicion or ambiguity in the work of OLAF could compromise its mission. The Dalli case, where a Commissioner was forced to leave based on allegations that might have been partly incited by OLAF, is a very serious concern for the EU and needs thorough investigation. New rules, clearer rules on OLAF’s mandate should help to avoid such problems in the future. The reputation and actions of OLAF need to be impeccable in order to carry out its tasks as a credible, impartial watch-dog and control dog."@et1
