"I voted in favour of this report. Promoting the right and freedom of religion or belief and preventing it from being violated has to be a priority of the EU’s external policies. There is a need to mainstream this in all of our relations with third countries and in the Union’s external actions. The VP/HR has to be vocal in condemning religiously motivated violence and hate speech in the world. Freedom of belief should be fostered, protected and guaranteed in its full scope.
This must include a collective dimension to exercise this right in community with others, to build churches, train religious leaders, freely communicate through all available means, publish and spread religious literature, receive voluntary contributions and guarantee teaching of children according to the values and principles of their parents, on voluntary basis. The EU should present conditions in particular to prevent religious discrimination targeting the family and influencing the social legislation of third countries."@et1
